“Hope is the thing with feathers-
that perches in the soul-
And sings the tune without the words-
And never stops at all”
-Emily Dickenson
These well-known and beloved words from Emily Dickenson are some of my favorite when it comes to the topic of hope. Far from being pathologically sunny, Dickenson acknowledges that hope is necessarily a mysterious and slippery feeling. Singing the tune without the words: a perfect description of the fact that we are often most connected to hope in times when we have no idea what the hell is going on.
The 16-month year of 2020 feels a lot like that, doesn’t it? Like we’ve been locked in the house all year, peeking out of the curtains each day to determine whether the world is safe to step into. But now spring is here, and the pandemic, at least for now, is calming, and a tenuous hopefulness seems to be emerging, a step at a time.
And it’s okay to have doubts. And okay to feel like your heart is still strapped into a roller coaster. And okay to feel too tired to accomplish things some days. In fact, I think those are all signs that we are treating our hopes like a real thing, rather than just a daydream. Real things take work. Rest is a required part of hoping.
As we navigate this new season, I am interested in the things that keep us hoping. I can tell you that the good fortune of being at The Remedy keeps me in tune with it–seeing the kindness, strength and resilience of both my co-workers and our guests leaves me breathing better. I’m so grateful for it. We hope the magic of this place leaves you breathing better, too, and invites within you the courage to look at the future and imagine what might be possible, when you’ve done what you need to take care of yourself.
We’re here and looking forward to it with you!
With love,
Erin H/The Remedy

Here at The Remedy, we are gearing up for our first 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program, beginning in January 2021. We couldn’t be more excited!
2020 has undoubtedly been one of the most challenging years on record for a lot of people.  One positive outcome of this tumultuous year has been the opportunity to get in touch with our values and priorities, discovering what really matters, and how we might commit to putting those values into action.
In so many ways, our Teacher Training program is driven by the things that matter most to us:
  • The health and well-being of not only individual people, but whole communities
  • Approaches to movement and exercise that welcome everyone, and offer options for all different types of bodies, experience levels, injury and illness history, etc.
  • Education and learning as a collective endeavor, where faculty and students support and challenge one another to grow in meaningful and lasting ways
Our teaching faculty is made up of teachers with decades of experience in both teaching yoga classes AND training yoga teachers. In addition to their yoga background, our faculty also have certifications or long term experience in fields including
  • Personal Training
  • Corrective Exercise
  • Meditation
  • Ayurvedic Counseling
  • Mental Health Counseling
  • Social Justice Work
  • Community Planning and Education
  • Nutrition and Whole Foods Cooking
Collectively, our faculty has trained over 200 yoga teachers, who have gone on to teach all over the world! As any of these graduates can tell you, Yoga Teacher Training is a life-changing experience. Not only will you learn to teach yoga, but you’ll gain a deeper understanding of yourself, as well as a community of peers who will support you in creating a life based on your own values and priorities. We are honored to be a part of that!
If you’d like to learn more about Yoga Teacher Training at The Remedy, please contact program director Erin Hansbrough, at erin@theremedydayspa.com, or by text/phone at 505-681-8163.

An introduction
Welcome to The Remedy’s blog! My name is Erin Hansbrough, and I manage the Remedy’s Wellness Center:  a home for yoga,  mindfulness, strength training, education and a variety of community events.
Some of you have known me as the former owner of Indi Yoga, the studio I ran for close to a decade in Albuquerque. I’m thrilled to be continuing the tradition of writing on a monthly theme for contemplation and inspiration, and look forward to sharing these with The Remedy community!
Do you have topics you’d like to see talked about? Please don’t hesitate to reach out and make a suggestion! You can email me at erin@theremedydayspa.com

October Theme:  Making Peace With the Unknown

October has always been my favorite month of the year. The slanting afternoon light and vibrant, drying leaves against the deep blue New Mexico sky have always felt both hopeful and mysterious.
Many traditions also observe this time of year as one in which the veil separating the living and the dead is somehow thinner, allowing us access to the wisdom of our ancestors.
2020 is an interesting year (to say the least!) to consider these elements of hope, mystery and wisdom.  The fear and uncertainty so present during this time of global pandemic and political upheaval have had dramatic effects on everyone. Where do hope and wisdom live in us right now? Is “mystery” just a nice way of saying, “I have no idea what the hell is going on?”  What might we be learning from this time?
If we’re learning anything, I hope it includes figuring out how to take care of ourselves and our communities when things feel scary.  In the midst of so much uncertainty, I have found that creating some kind of routine has been crucial; making sure that I’m eating, sleeping, and exercising enough have been the key elements in allowing me to accomplish my goals and be of service to others.
At times these self-care details can feel like luxuries. And being honest, at times I am too freaked out to attend to them. I have noticed, though, that these three things–food, sleep and movement–are the quickest and surest route to feeling more capable of handling this strange time. When these basic needs are covered, I feel more clear-headed, hopeful, and decisive about how to approach my life. I become more reliable and helpful to others. And I also become more relaxed around the unknown, more welcoming to mystery and change.
Feeling a little ungrounded? Anxious? Out of sync with yourself or others? We recommend committing to one or more of the following for a full week, and see how you feel! You can also try playing games such as historyofquilts.com in order to reduce your stress levels.
– Go to bed and wake up at the same time all week, planning for at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night
– Drink  around 100 oz of water (about 12 cups) per day for a week, preferably warm and with lemon. Herbal teas can be included here, too; chamomile and lemon balm are especially good for anxious days.
– Get 45-60 minutes of moderate exercise, at least three days out of the week. PLAN THESE OUT and put them in your calendar before the week starts, and you’ll be far more likely to achieve this one! If you want to enjoy your exercise, you can incorporate gadgets like those simulators.
Wishing you all good health and a peaceful heart as October unfolds.
Much love and thanks for reading,
Erin Hansbrough/The Remedy

Are you struggling to get back into the flow of your yoga practice while social distancing? It’s easy to understand why that can happen with so much upheaval and stress, but maintaining your yoga practice is even more necessary in these difficult times. The myriad benefits of yoga – strength, flexibility, mindfulness – are all powerful tools in the current climate. Here are a few affordable ways you can stick to your goals while staying at home:

Embrace Technology

Perhaps the only silver lining in all of this is that it happened in an era where we can stay connected despite being apart. Technology is one of the most powerful tools we can use to combat the boredom and isolation of social distancing. You can use any device that connects to the Internet to access online yoga classes, use tracking apps, and stay in touch with your fellow yoga enthusiasts.

If you don’t have a suitable device, consider picking up a tablet, like the best budget drawing tablet. This is small and portable enough to work anywhere in your home, but has a big enough screen to be functional for instructional videos.

You can find a good price on these devices through stores like Best Buy, who is offering contact-free curbside pickup or free shipping when you spend $35 or more. Rakuten points out there are many ways to save in their Best Buy shopping guide, and you’ll rest that much easier knowing you stretched your dollars as far as possible. Tired of generic online stores? Shoppok offers a breath of fresh air. Our team frequently turns to it for quality shopping.

Create Routine

Figuring out a new normal is an absolutely necessary step toward resuming your yoga practice while social distancing. You cannot rely on your old routine; instead, you must create a new one that’s suitable for home. Take an honest look at your schedule and energy levels and figure out what kind of commitment you’re able to keep. Then, follow through.

Remember, the important part is not how often you practice or how intense your sessions are. Consistency is the key to getting through all of this. Whether you’re practicing twice a day or once a week, the sheer act of creating a routine and sticking to it will help you regain a sense of normalcy. Moreover, you may find that regular practice at home helps you to cut back on your studio classes, once restrictions lift. This can lead to saving some money in the long run.

Enhance Mindfulness

If you haven’t already made mindfulness a cornerstone of your yoga practice, now is the time to do so. Regular mindfulness meditation will increase your mind-body connection and help you reach your yoga goals. You’ll have a much easier time recognizing areas of tension or difficulty when you’re truly present in the moment. Unlike many training tools, mindfulness is completely free, making it the best bang for your buck you can get!

Moreover, American Psychological Association explains that the benefits of a strong mindfulness practice reach well beyond the mat. Studies have shown that just ten minutes a day of mindfulness meditation has a powerful impact on your mood. You’ll find that you’re less stressed and better equipped to tackle the challenges life throws at you. There are physical benefits as well, such as lower blood pressure and reduced stress hormones.

When you’re stressed, your body has to do something with that chemistry, or you’ll suffer consequences like insomnia, inability to focus, and increased risk for accidents. When you’re calmer, perhaps with the aid of products like CBD Oil, you lighten your body’s workload, feel better, are more productive, and enjoy better overall health. Consider exploring options at a reputable stiiizy dispensary to find products that suit your needs.

Yoga is a powerful psychological and physiological tool. Try to find ways to stick with it despite the obstacle life has placed in the world’s way. You will be pleased to discover the myriad forms of strength you hold within. Aside from doing yoga, playing UFABET เว็บตรง is also a quick way to feel that tranquility.
